Post 10: English Language Challenges

The english language has been one of my greatest challenges on my way to university, because sadly in the majority of public schools teaching language is not a priority, and a lot of times it teaches a rather precarious way. When i was on primary almost never had an english teaches, there was a lot of replacement, so the formation was disorganized and I had a hard time understanding. On secundaria, my teacher was doing classes angry and always punishing us going down our evaluations, it really made being scared of his subject so he end up killing my interest about learning, that's why i started to refuse the language, it gets me angry that it was an “obligation”and i thought i would never learned it 'cause it was a privilege for better socioeconomic position’s people and who could pay to receive a better education.

The truth is that I still think it's a class problem, but over the years I understood that learning another language opens many possibilities and should be a tool and not a impediment. The blog helps a lot to break that tension, doing it is more entertaining than other methodologies, it allows to interact with schoolmates and I was able to know their opinions on some topics, it was very interesting!

With respect to my English I must improve in all aspects haha just since this year that I started to stop being afraid of the language, so I am familiarizing myself in small ways that help practice, such as reading press releases or opinion columns of topics that interest me, and I have also paid more attention to music and film dialogues. I hope to progress with time J

Post 9: Changes to my study programme

When I started studying Anthropology, I thougth that the subjects were very diverse and complete. I thougth it was a good idea to have subjects of the three mentions that the university: social, archeology and biological anthropology. However, I think now that doesn't meet its objective of "knowing a little bit of everything" rather I turned out to be a disorganized programme, and I would have liked analyze more in subjects of mi mention (Social Anthropology). But since last year that there is a new curriculum map, and it seems to be much more comprehensive, and has more field work that is very necessary!

I think it's a long career, the students take a long time to get a degree (eigthteen semester aproximately) that's why I think we could have less academic responsabilty, and that would help us to take better advantage of the subjects and learn more.

To improve the professional training of future anthropologists, should be modernized the teaching methods, including latin american bibliography, and increase field work, because the best way to learn is practice. Also, the school of social sciences needs better infrastructure conditions, for example, the library is small and very noisy; there are few computers available, and finally, we don't even have a cafetería. Many times I don't reach lunch and it is difficult to perform correctly in the afternoon.

It is neccesary that we constantly question our training, that we dialogue with our teachers and always look for new mechanisms to improve education.

Post 8: My personal opinion

Hi! Today I will give my opinion on some topics of interest :)

1. What is your opinion about legalizing abortion in some cases?

I really believe free abortion should be legalized. In every case: since the three current causes (Chile) to free abortion, just ‘cause i’m convinced that our bodys are our, and of our own. All contraceptives can fail, even when you are using more than one at the same time, and you are in the completely right to decide.
People actually abort, but in hiding. And most of them end up dead. The real debate is if you’re with legal abortion or with hiding abortion. I think people don’t must die for just being empowered with their own bodys.

2. What is your opinion about tattoos?
I see tattoos like a way of capture art in our bodys, to express our thoughts and dreams; all our vision about the world, at the same time we are free living the sovereignty in our bodies. I guess every tattoo has to have a great meaning for yourself, you must be aware that it will be with you your entire life, so you have to be very responsible to choose it one and to decide to impress it in your skin.

Post 6: Postgraduate Studies

Sometimes it is difficult to think about doing postgraduate studies as a Chilean student, because it is difficult to access funding opportunities. However, since I entered the university, I always looked for options, I applied for scholarships from the State, from the faculty, even from the municipality of the district in which I live, and in my father's work. I think I've had good luck, and maybe I could also access a scholarship to study a postgraduate.
When I am a Social Anthropologist, I would like to have a career first before going to study again, because you might know new areas of interest. However, Gender Anthropology has been one of my major study interests, and I would also like to work in that area, for that reason I would like to realize the "Master in Studies of Gender and Culture, mention of Social Sciences" of the University of Chile, It has very interesting lessons, I also had classes with two teachers of the program and they are fantastic! And if possible, I would study outside of Chile, I would love to learn more about of Social Anthropology at a university in Brazil, because it is one the best schools in the Latin America.  It would also be a beautiful country to know and live there for a while J

Post 4: My best Friend

I have never liked talking about "best friend" because I feel that they are all important to me. With some I shared from small, others came later in my life but we have shared very important moments, but if I have to choose one would be Bernadette.
We are friends 15 years ago, I started living in a new commune so I changed schools, and I met her there, in fourth grade.
We hated each other at first, but over time we began to accompany each other, from doing homework together, to getting together to play in the afternoon, and when we were growing up, we got together to drink beer to tell us about life.

I have very nice memories with her, the most important is that she taught me to ride a bicycle, and the most significant for me is that I was the only person she invited to her thesis defense, and then we celebrated the two that finally ended her college career!

Now we do not see each other so often, I continue studying and she works, we have different lives and even our interests have been changing, but we are always there for the other because we love each other very much <3

Post 2: The Skatalites

The best concert I want to, I was the 16th of December on “Club Subterráneo”, a bar that is in the commune of Providencia, Santiago of Chile. The band is called “The Skatalites” ¡really I love it! Because I like the music “ska” because he is happy and everyone can dance, y The Skatalites are Jamaica's premier ska band since 1964, and combine rhythms as ska, rocksteady, reggae, dub, two-tone, and 3rd wave ska.

That day, I have my last test of subject very difficult, and I got an excellent rating, so with my friends we were celebrating all day in the University, and we arrived very happy to the Club Subterráneo. It was very hot, because there were too many people in a small place, but it was amazing! The instrumental sounds were perfect ¡I felt chills! and there were all the people dancing, it was really a party that lasted two hours. At the time I felt whole trajectory of the band, they are very good and I would see them again!
